The registration fee will be $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 years old, children 5 and under are free. The registration fee covers the cost of the tailgate on Saturday and admission to the football game. Download the Schedule.

EVENT SCHEDULE

Friday, September 21

3-5 p.m. Check-in | Garrison Campus Center

Pick up all of your information and enjoy an ice cream float in our commemorative Family Weekend cup. Visit with our McMurry Student Foundation members and see how they play an active role on campus. Meet our mascot Wally War Hawk and get a picture with him.  Participate in the Family Weekend service project by bringing a non-perishable food item to help stock the shelves of the Friendship Closet, our local campus food pantry.

Bookstore open until 5 p.m. – Get your McMurry Gear Here!

4:30 – 7 p.m. Dinner Available in the Village Market Dining Hall

  • $4.75 (adults); $2.38 (6-12 years old); free (5 years & under)

7- 9 p.m. Family Weekend Hangout | Sports Grille, Garrison Campus Center

  • Come and Hang Out with the Campus Activities Board (CAB) at Family Weekend. Join CAB for a trivia night event for fun with the entire family!  Order a snack from the grill and enjoy the evening. 

7-10 p.m. Sports Grille Open, Garrison Campus Center

  • Food Specials:$.50 cent Wings!
  • $1 small Popcorn bucket

Saturday, September 22

9 – 10:30 a.m. Late Check-in | Garrison Campus Center

  • Pick up all of your information and participate in the Family Weekend service project by bringing a non-perishable food item to help stock the shelves of the Friendship Closet, our local campus food pantry.

Visit the McMurry Bookstore from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.!

9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. War Hawk Breakfast in the Village Market Dining Hall

  • $4.50 (adults); $2.88 (6-12 years old); free (5 years & under)
  • Visit with McMurry faculty & staff as well as other families and students as you enjoy breakfast in the Village Market Dining Hall.  Meet University President Dr. Sandra Harper who will provide welcome remarks.

10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Brunch Available in the Village Market Dining Hall

  • $5.75 (adults); $2.88 (6-12 years old); free (5 years & under)

10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tour Abilene & Enjoy some Family Activities!

  • Get to know our local community by taking in of these suggested events/attractions with your student. All activities listed are family friendly!

Family Fun Saturdays, the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature. | 102 Cedar Street.

  • This is a come-and-go family program offered by our art educators who will help you and your little ones create a work of art using the style and medium of the featured artist in the gallery. Emphasis is on having fun while picking up valuable knowledge.  Free activity from 1 – 4 p.m.

Primetime Entertainment | 4541 Loop 322

  • This is a family entertainment center featuring bowling, laser tag, miniature golf, go-karts and many more activities.

Maxx Air Trampoline Park | 949 South Judge Ely Boulevard

  • Maxx Air Trampoline Park is a 30,000 square foot entertainment center with various obstacles and trampoline park activities!

Abilene Zoo | 2070 Zoo Lane

  • The Abilene Zoo boasts over 1,000 animals representing 250 species, including lions, black rhinos, monkeys, bears, reptiles, birds and amphibians.

Take a Hike!

  • Take a walk or hike at one of Abilene’s parks. Redbud Park, 3125 South 32nd Street, is close to campus. The park features athletic fields, playground & picnic tables, plus fitness trails & a prairie dog preserve. Abilene State Park, 150 Park Rd 32, Tuscola, TX, is located just 16 miles south of Abilene on the banks of Elm Creek.  At the park you can camp, hike, geocache, bird watch or ride bikes. Along with many picnic sites under the trees, the park has a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pit, basketball goal and large open area. Entrance is $5, children 12 and under are free.

Have some Coffee!

  • Visit some area coffee shops.  For some great drinks, try Big Country Coffee (outdoor patio!), 5001 Buffalo Gap Roach, Monk’s Coffee Shop, 233 Cypress Street (downtown Abilene), or Starbucks at 4150 Buffalo Gap Road or 1389 Barrow Street.

3 p.m. March of the War Hawks | Quad

  • Join the McMurry band and cheerleaders as they lead the War Hawks Football team across the Quad to Wilford Moore Stadium.

3:30 p.m. Tailgate | Behind the Library

  • Visit with other students and families and McMurry faculty & staff as you enjoy food, inflatables, games, and music. 

4:30 p.m. Tailgate Entertainment | Brother Brother

  • Brother Brother plays indie rock on a banjo. Originally hailing from Sarasota, Florida, the energy of this sibling duo brings a fresh light to today’s roots music revival. Singer-songwriters Bradley and Brett Anderson have original harmonies and tunes ranging from Mumford-like melodies to Twenty-One Pilots-esque rhythms featured on acoustic and electric guitars, banjos, drums, and live MIDI sampling.
